Puerta Cerrada

Puerta Cerrada is a square of the old Madrid, in La Latina neighbourhood between the calle Segovia and dyers, between the Hackberries Street and the street of the Nuncio and the Cava Baja and the Cuchilleros Street.
Plaza de Puerta Cerrada takes its name from the ancient gate built here in the 12th century, belonging to the Christian wall. The door was so called because she remained long closed due to the danger that offered: to be very narrow and be made with many bends, criminals used to assault that there they came and went. In 1569 it was definitely thrown down but the name has been kept since then.
